Executive Relocation – A Checklist For Your Family

Seeking short term furnished housing or long stay corporate accommodation? Here are a few things you should know…

Moving to fully furnished corporate housing for a long stay or an extended stay or executive relocation is always a smooth transition with Westprecinct Furnished Residences but there are still important things to contemplate for you and especially your family.

Executive relocation can be a very stressing time for the whole family but with a little bit of pre-planning, organisation and following a strict checklist; the whole day can go exactly to plan. With fully furnished accommodation, you don’t have to worry about moving your furniture or unpacking boxes but there are still important things to consider. Here are five things to think about when moving to executive accommodation or short term furnished housing.

Utility check: It is important to disconnect your phone and inform your internet service provider, gas, electricity or water company in a timely manner that you are moving to another residence. Make sure you know how much advanced notice you need to give to your utilities company to avoid any unnecessary penalties or bills. You also have to ensure that the utilities will be connected in your new corporate housing.

Check your rental agreement: If you are renting, you need to make sure you give your landlord advanced notice that you are moving out so you don’t violate your rental agreement. Check your individual rental agreement to see how many weeks’ notice you may need to give. You will also need to allocate time to clean the apartment, arrange for an inspection and give the keys back to the real estate agent.

Putting your furniture in storage: Depending on whether you are an expatriate or you are moving from one state to another, you will need to decide whether you sell your existing furnishings and fittings or put them into storage. Furniture storage may be a cost effective solution if you are moving into temporary accommodation for the interim but you intend to find a more permanent housing solution.

Redirect your mail: Contact your local post office and ask them to redirect all your mail to your new address. You will also need to contact your insurance company, bank, superannuation company, health care providers and relevant organisations to advise them of your change of address. It is also important to advise family and friends that you are moving.

Packing wisely: Essential cookware and utensils will usually be provided as part of your executive housing agreement so you don’t have to worry about having these items on hand when you move. However, you should pack away any other important items you may require in a separate box and take any important documents and papers with you. You also need to arrange to get the keys to your new corporate accommodation.

Putting together an itemised checklist for the whole family will help you remember things like defrosting the fridge or organising temporary accommodation for the prized family pet that you may forget overlook in a last minute rush to get everything done. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with a beautiful harbourscape on one side and a heated lap pool on the other. Balmain is great place to live.
